A Follow up to my Impeachment rant

post by dawn garcia |

This is in response to a comment made: You're right - the Draft certainly would change things considerably and while the men and women serving are there on their own accord I fear their initial beliefs of why they are there fighting are not the same as when they began. I know a handful of men and women serving and the consensus has been that they've lost track of why they're in Iraq (aside from their commitment to serve). I hope that the DRAFT is a thing of the past. I'm sure Bush has tried but thankfully there are enough people, whether in his staff or in Congress, that stopped that from happening. And if anything, I was wrong about things being "crazier" in the 60's and 70's. I think things are pretty out of hand now. I would like to see this Administration put their religious agenda to the side (perhaps lock it away in a chest that is then thrown into the bottomless pit of the ocean) and start looking here at home. Our feet are in everyone's soil. Is it any wonder we have so many enemies? Also, one thing I also forgot to mention in my rant was simply this - where is our government in terms of helping its own countrymen? Poverty is shameful, job insecurity is pathetic, health insurance is sky rocketing while healthcare deteriorates (6 out of 10 emergency rooms are closing), homeland security has neglected their responsibility of our "right to bare arms" and have let anyone and everyone get their hands on weapons that have no Constitutional use - getting into the hands of children leading to school shootings, gang warfare, random acts of violence ... Here is where I was headed with some of my comments: 1) Who cares about gay marriage? Why is it anyone's business if 2 people love one another enough to commit? Shouldn't we applaud that? I mean I can't say heterosexuals are doing such a bang up job as examples of "happy" marriages. Why shouldn't the gay community have the same rights? If the government wants to stand in the way of that then perhaps they should start putting a stop to shotgun weddings, young lovers getting married, etc. You try and place limitations on one then that opens the door to letting the "man" control everything. Just give them their Constitutional rights and let it go! 2) Bush is against abortion - calls it murder and inhumane but under his order has killed people, innocent and otherwise, in the name of war. How is that not murder? People are dead, children are motherless or fatherless at our hand so explain that to me ... Here goes the debate: abortion is a woman's choice. It shouldn't be used as a means of birth control and for the safety of everyone involved should have limitations on when it can be performed. If the baby is developed and can survive outside of the womb, then it does present a moral dilemna. On the other hand, how about educating these ignorant men and women, boys and girls about safe sex! This fear of not talking about it leads to unwanted pregnancies. Get over the taboo and let these kids have birth control, use condoms, THEY WILL HAVE SEX whether you talk to them about it or not. Give them a chance in life and educate them. Sex is natural at least - religious conviction is manmade ... So there you go ...
