I often wonder what would happen if the masses stood up and said that we're not happy with the government. In the 1960's it meant something to start a revolution for change. These days if there is an attempt to revolt, the police simply show up and start shooting. I wonder what happened to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly, honorable protests, and trying to change. I'm liberal, but not a bleeding heart. I just believe in the people, mankind, in having hope for the future generations. As of now, I'm afraid we're failing miserably. What messages are we sending to the world, to our youth, to the unfaltering (sadly now faltering) judicial integrity of this country? We now live in a country motivated by fear. The word "TERRORIST" has become second nature to us. I'm not in any way saying that we should ignore the dangers surrounding us, what I am suggesting is that we look at why we have such an increasingly violent backlash. Those who "hate" America would have left us alone had we not run off to their country's and placated war, left uncertainty, a bitter taste of arrogance in their mouths. If we stopped starting wars and propagating violence to promote democracy, I'm guessing those that "hate" us might actually lay off. We've or rather those we've elected - or not elected have gotten us into this mess. I feel immense sympathy for the next President who will have to clean up this disaster of a mess the current Administration has created. With only a year and 4 months left, I still believe the people need to take a stand and let Georgey know just how unhappy we are. I think the masses should send letter after letter, have marches, protest the way our government has so poorly demonstrated their power. Our voices are loud ... our words are powerful. Even if it means you leave a message at the White House (oh, yes ... you can leave a message). In fact, here's the number you need to let the White House know just how you feel: (202) 456-1111 Call every day if need be. Inundate those phone lines with words of disappointment, let them know why this Administration has single-handedly made America the laughing stock of the world. We've lost respect in this world, we've become the brutal dictators to many countries and that has to change. Here's to doing what we can. Maybe, just maybe, at the end of this all, Bush and his posse will actually apologize for the pathetic job they've done. I'm not holding my breath, but a little remorse might actually make him seem human.
