My Challenge for Everyone

post by dawn garcia |

Recently a couple lost all 3 of their children in an unfortunate car accident. The moments that "crash" into us happen without warning. Some are astounding, some are tragic. The thing is, no matter where you live or who you are chances are your parents looked at you when you were a baby and said that all they wished for you is happiness. Such a simple wish that gets clouded as the years go on. Often parents forget those moments and begin trying to control who their children become. They shouldn't. All any of us owe the world is to do whatever we can to be happy - granted that only applies if no one gets hurt. I don't mean emotionally hurt because sometimes in order to pursue our own dreams and create our own happiness someone inevitably gets hurt along the way. What I mean is we should take a moment to look ourselves in the mirror and see that tiny child who had the world at its disposal. Those two people that lost their children will forever have that loss facing them. Hopefully, they will find strength to move forward, to stay together, and perhaps try to have other children. We can't wait for tragedy to strike us. We have to make every moment count. We have to pursue our dreams, let go of things that pervert our minds, realize our potential as good human beings. We have to love and be loved, laugh and make others laugh around us, smile at a stranger, dig our toes in the sand, swim naked in the ocean, seize the day! We all had someone who wanted us to be happy, wanted us to be whatever we wanted to be and if you didn't, there was someone along the way who wished that for you but may have forgotten to tell you so here's my challenge for you: Today, make apologies, don't make excuses, give all your heart, kiss the ones you love, laugh about something stupid, let go of regret, forget about the small things that won't matter if your life ended today. Life is so short, it really is and since none of us know for absolute certain what happens after this, we better make it count. We've all heard it before and we've all sworn tomorrow would be different so instead of waiting on tomorrow, take your moment now and thrive in it. Make today beautiful ... forget about your fears, let go of rejection, be kind to people, treat strangers and those you love with respect and admiration, don't hold yourself in such high regard that you miss meeting someone amazing, see the world, don't judge those you can't understand, relinquish your prejudice. Write a long overdue letter or email, just don't wait for the perfect moment. There isn't one. Make this one yours ...
