The rain is falling soft and lovely in Southern California - it's about time. I can hear the soft patter of each drop hitting the ground while I sit here enveloped by sounds of my interior: a baby's cry, the coffee pot descending its final drips, a cat in desperate need of attention, groovy, lack-luster music playing in the background of the weather channel, and of course the sound of the keys on the keyboard dancing around whilst my fingers tap them hurriedly and with intention. Time to change the channel (wishing I could turn the cat off too!). It's amzing that the cat - a direct relative of such magnificent creatures as tigers and pumas is so small, meek and unrelenting in terms of neediness. No, I don't have the ones that live their lives independent of me. Mine grasp on to any vacant sign of possible interaction and meow until I notice. Sadly, I ignore them now. On to more important topics - the recent shootings at Virginia Tech, the war, the environment. No, I suppose you're right - not a graceful transition. Still, this is the world we live in now. No warning, hardly any grace, rather a sort of graphic explosion of reality shoved in our faces while we hope to turn on the TV for something amusing, at least in hopes that maybe, for once, the news anchors will talk about something good in society. No, we'll have to wait for that one unless of course they suddenly find out someone jumped in front of a moving vehicle to save a little kids' life. I think that just happens in movies. No such luck in our world.
