We often get lost. Lost in our own expectation or the state of the world or the simple state of waking up every day to face what's to come. For instance, in my world I had things unravel over the last month that changed nearly everything for me. I have no choice but to start over. In almost every aspect of my life. It can be scary and overwhelming but in truth, perhaps this is exactly what I needed. It seems everywhere in the world life is steadily excelling at a rate none of us understand and in the same breath, the potential for growth and progress is astounding. The key will be whether or not we see it. It's certainly easier to look at the world and see the rapid decline of humanity and steady disappearance of ethical obligations because everyone is struggling in one way or another. Wars, hate, ignorance, recession, economic downfall, humanitarian crises, moral decline, and the all but neglect in both the education and health systems, internationally. What will be the challenge for us all is to look past the obvious and see the possibility and hope for the perfect opportunity to implement change. No better time to force something different than when everything has fallen apart. As a people, I believe all of us are being challenged with adversity. I know I can just shrivel up and watch my life fall apart OR I can open my eyes and see every avenue of possibility. That, in my book, is the only option. Survival mode. It's when we can be our very best. (and yes, quite often our very worst) I suppose I challenge all of you to use your voice, to use your suffering, to use your pain and hurt to channel it into something positive. Don't let all of this crap win. It won't do anything but break you even further and in the end, the result will be the same - you will have to change or give up. Giving up is never an option. It's one thing to accept defeat and quite another to look life in the face and say "you win". Our lives, our futures, our destiny is in your own hands. It's not up to circumstance. It's up to you. Do something important, find the deepest kindness within you and give it to the world. Create something magnificent, tell someone the truth, open your heart, break down the walls, go after a job you've always dreamed of, or open yourself to the hope for something better. I won't let these "things" take away my spirit and while in my own solitude, I may shed a tear or two or feel frustrated or overwhelmed, I will never allow myself to give up. I'm a fighter. We all can be. None of us are above change and it's never too late to start over. Please value every moment you have and let go of the hate and the hurt. It's only breeding more of the same and in the end, at the risk of sounding like a free-loving hippie, all that really matters is love.
