What's that, you say? We're free?

“They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security” - Benjamin Franklin Today America celebrates its Independence from the world. A country that is said to be brimming with possibility and a great framework of government. Oh, if only we all believed that. While yes, some look at where we live and truly think we are free - They haven’t been paying attention to the fact that we are now a country that enacts in hostile torture or racial profiling or racism or poverty or business and corporate corruption or health care systems that are failing at astounding rates, leaving Americans to die or suffer with illness all in the name of - you guessed it, Corporate Pharmaceutical companies. Those who believe that our circumstances are still better than most are living in a world wearing rose colored glasses. Sure we have a Constitution that protects us but sadly, these days, everyone else is looking to tear that “piece of profound principles” down to shreds and mold it into something entirely different than intended. As a result, there are a plethora of other countries that are looking far more promising in terms of longevity, freedom, liberties, acceptance, etc. We have been going through this life, at least the last 35 years, with our eyes filtered. Our elected officials have lost their way. Sending those we love into battle without justifiable cause and watching countless men and women die or suffer only to be ignored upon their return. In states that were once the stars and leaders in innovation and jobs, housing, and employment like CA, it seems its a sad state of affairs. Californians are beginning to unravel as their jobs slip away and the housing market still doesn’t reflect the actual median. The state’s economy is plunging into an abyss of debt and mismanagement. Though this is the growing trend in America. Something drastic has to change and sadly our President elect (whom sold us on change and hope) isn’t making any headway and instead is just, to quote a wise penguin, “smiling and waving”. We need a leader. We ALL need a leader. One who pushes the boundaries and forces some positive change. Passing out countless handouts to companies who should otherwise be left to fail and rebuild and instead neglecting to assist the PEOPLE who need it is wasteful. So why yes, today we celebrate our freedoms and we barbecue and drink and watch magical displays of independence, remember this: jobs are still being lost, our national economy is still outspending and going into catastrophic debt, consumers are undervalued, families are overlooked, citizens are being left to die in overcrowded ER’s, my friends and family and those we all love are engaged in wars we cannot possibly comprehend, and all of this is happening in the name of GREED. Our nation is no longer striving for freedom and independence; it no longer values its people above self interests; it has quit on principles that amplified our national motto. We are no longer free. We are captives in a capitalist-motivated, neglectful, irresponsible, gun-wielding, ignorant mess of a leadership and I can only HOPE that something drastic is about to CHANGE! Perhaps we can light some fireworks under them and see some drastic display of freedom before it goes any further...
