I write to you all now with some serious issues weighing upon me - in a world that consists of so many cultures and beliefs, how is that religious intolerance exists at all? It seems to me that with education, travel, and simply following world news, it would only seem more and more reasonable to leave people's religious beliefs alone. The truth is, man created religion as a means of comfort for those left here on earth with questions of existence and purpose. Faith is within us and that faith can carry anyone through what they need, but there is a difference between religion and faith. Perhaps a better way to go into this is this - religious differences are tearing the world apart. Wars start because of it, violence results from it, a sense of elitism derives from it, and above all hate for another stems from it. If faith is to be all it is intended, whatever faith that is, then truthfully, someone's beliefs should lead them to be kinder, gentler, more accepting, and tolerant of others. Why do we allow religion to separate us? Families are torn apart by it rather than united ... We should respect other people's beliefs. If no one is being harmed in the name of it (and that goes for every religion), then why not allow others to live out their lives the way they want? For instance - Fundamentalists of every religion spend their entire lives here (the only certain life we have) preparing for death and the afterlife. What happens when you're on your death bed, surrounded by people that care for you and you've spent so much time worrying about something you cannot control? Why not enjoy your life here? Why not follow your beliefs without jeopardizing your relationships or being un-accepting of those who believe differently than you? If you truly want to be an example of whatever faith you believe, do so with a light hand and a heavy heart. Do it with kindness and subtlety, don't label someone a sinner simply because you think your "God" or "Allah" gave you that right because truth is, no superior being gave any one us the right to criticize or judge. No one is superior to another. If someone has committed a crime against humanity, let society and the law handle it. Don't suck it up to their "faith" or "lack thereof". It is shameful and ignorant. Use the brain we were all given and try out some understanding. You'll enjoy life a whole lot more, meet amazing people, and maybe you might just learn something!
