“Democracy means simply the bludgeoning of the people by the people for the people.” - Oscar Wilde

How many times are we going to discuss gay marriage? How many times are gay couples going to be treated as some inbred cousin instead of with the dignity and respect deserved? I live in California. A state that is supposedly known for its open-mindedness and the entertainment industry. Well, I actually work in the entertainment industry. An industry that is quite evenly run by heterosexuals and homosexuals. In that world, no one cares who loves who and it doesn’t have anything to do with how they do their job. (Yes, I realize there are exceptions, but we’re going for the norm here.)

So how is it that the religious right AND Conservative Republicans got their grubby hands on the notion of gay marriage being the most sought after “pitchforks and brimstone” idea of the late 2000’s? Why, money, of course. Because clearly it’s not about social injustice when both party’s spout off wild ideas like “marriage is sacred” and...
they have the highest divorce rate. Or them saying gay marriage “‘is like saying it’s ok to marry an animal” because let’s not highlight the rigorous solicitation of children and sexual assault by religious and political figures (they wish we didn’t know about their indiscretions). The moral implication of gay marriage is about as unjust as being a working parent. It’s ridiculous to even call it a moral dilemma. And let’s be honest, to publicly humiliate the gay community is highly unconstitutional.

So what is all the fuss about? Personally I think we’re flailing as a society. Rather than focusing on the real moral injustices like child prostitution or corporate fraud or government intrusion or Constitutional amendments that would strip away the very freedoms that make this nation great OR the Healthcare Industry that would rather see us sick and medication dependent than actually provide real care, they focus on something that makes them feel powerful. So people allow me to be the first to say that that “power” you’re tossing around is actually bigotry at its finest. (Yes, this is the part where you should feel shamed.)

When the divorce rate in this country is steadily climbing and child prostitution rings are being broken up, our soldiers are coming back more psychologically wounded then when they left and there is NO real support for them, or our elected officials are being caught in one scandal after another, I’d say it’s high time we stop worrying about gay marriage and start worrying about things that are worth that time and money you keep wasting with your hate.

Who’s with me?

(FYI, this is NOT the time to "preach" to me. I was raised in a Christian home, have read the Bible and personally do not believe. I ask you to respect that and respond only in the form of a humanitarian, not a religious follower. If you are not able to separate the two, this is definitely not the forum for you. I respect your beliefs but find they do not have anything insightful nor are they absent-of-hate, therefore do not lend to this topic.)
