Time to Save the Future

post by dawn garcia |

Tonight I am actually going to ask something of all of you ... Since the majority of us live well enough to smile and get medical care when we need it, I think we should devote a little bit of our time to those who cannot. There are countries all over the world, including the US, that have children starving or suffering will illnesses they should never have had to have. There are several organizations that help distribute funds appropriately, as well as offer various ways to donate time. You can go as local as a nearby shelter or go for something larger and widespread such as Habitat for Humanity or one.org. Do your research - there are so many people suffering unnecessarily. The first location that comes to mind is Africa. A continent so rich in beauty and resources with so much corruption and deception, people ... children are dying from starvation, AIDS, Malaria, tribal war, government warfare, and so many other unjust circumstances. I continue to wonder why Africa has been ignored for so long while they begin to die out at such an alarming rate. Why doesn't the world care enough to save so much beauty and so much life? I can only speak on behalf of the United States government but it goes back to the notion that we sat back while genocide was being committed and did nothing. We also trained the militia which in turn committed atrocities in the Sudan. Allow brutal murders to be committed for diamonds. There are so many despicable acts that could have been prevented. New events that can be prevented. Take your time to read up on the history of Africa. Take the time to learn about what's NOT being done in this country as well. Our own government still has not acted justly for the victims of Katrina. Tornado victims in Florida received a tax break and didn't face nearly the devastation New Orleans did so here's what I ask: When do we as citizens begin to question our government? When do we start to demand change? I think we should start at this very moment if you haven't already. Ask what kind of twisted people are running the show in the White House when poverty and sickness are ruining the lives of our fellow Americans and little, if anything is being done to stop it. In addition ask why the world leaders choose who to save and why no one seems to care enough about Africa. There is poverty all around the world and when there are celebrities making $20 million a film or Business tycoons making hundreds of millions, why is it that anyone starves? It's fine to make the money and its admirable that these people are paid well to do what they love but when is enough enough? When do we let go of some of our comforts and try to set a better example for our children and generations to come? If we don't change our ways and start caring about the direction this world is heading in, I fear for our future.
